A Pine Island woman is out with a new book detailing her Cherokee Indian heritage. Martha Perritti’s new historical novel, “Standing Against the Wind” takes the reader through her three Cherokee grandmother’s experiences, including their participation in the Indian Removal Program. Her family had decided she was not to know about her Cherokee background. She discovered the truth at the age of 60 while doing research for a book about her mother. She appears at the Lee County Reading Festival Saturday at Centennial Park in Fort Myers. She spoke with Amy Tardif about her book. (AUDIO)
